Mechatronic and clutch repairs
We repair mechatronic units, clutch faults and solenoid faults on both wet and dry clutch DSG gearboxes, replacing affected parts with approved components.
Reconditioned DSG gearboxes
If a gearbox is too damaged to repair, we can replace it with a reconditioned 6 or 7-speed unit. We have more than 400 automatic gearboxes in stock, and the normal turnaround for a reconditioned DSG is 3 to 5 days.

What is a DSG gearbox?
Although they feel almost exactly like traditional automatic gearboxes, direct shift gearboxes (DSG) use a pair of clutches rather than a single unit. They still use the familiar lever, or paddles behind the steering wheel, and most let you choose a Sports mode or a Manual mode.
The main advantage of a DSG is that it changes gear extremely quickly, much faster than either a manual or a standard automatic gearbox. Read more in our guide to how a DSG gearbox works.
The first manufacturer to fit a DSG was the Volkswagen Group, in the Golf Mk4 R32 and, shortly after, the Audi TT 3.2. Other manufacturers use dual-clutch gearboxes under their own names.

What is a DSG gearbox?
A DSG gearbox (Direct Shift Gearbox) is a type of dual-clutch gearbox. It is an advanced type of automatic transmission that uses two separate clutches for seamless and quick gear changes, combining the efficiency of a manual gearbox with the convenience of an automatic.
How does a DSG gearbox work?
A DSG gearbox has two independent gear sets, each with its own clutch. While one clutch is engaged with a gear, the other is ready to engage the next one. The next gear is pre-selected, so it can be engaged almost instantly. Read more.
How much will a DSG gearbox repair cost?

Are DSG gearboxes reliable?
DSG gearboxes have proven to be reliable in many applications. Like any mechanical component, they need proper maintenance and servicing. Follow the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule and use the specified transmission fluid.
How long does a DSG gearbox last?
In smaller engine cars, DSG clutches are dry and have an estimated lifespan of 60,000 to 70,000 miles. Larger engine cars use wet DSG clutches that run in oil. This extends clutch life but introduces the issue of oil contamination.
Are Skoda DSG gearboxes reliable?
Skoda DSG gearboxes have a reputation for being reliable in both 6 and 7-speed formats. Failures are rare and usually found in older, higher-mileage vehicles, but they can be expensive to fix. Skoda DSG gearboxes need an oil change every 40,000 miles.
