Having received outstanding help from Abi on Reception early in the year and getting confirmation of oil leak, Abi advised us of your two possibilities of the work that might be needed to be carried out and the two cost amounts.

Being pensioners in our 70’s we told Abi we would need to have some time to save the money to cover the biggest amount should it be that. We came in on the Tuesday 17th June 2025 having arranged with Abi for our car to be repaired. On arriving we had the pleasure of meeting you and left the car. On Thursday 19th June my wife Val received a call from you advising the work you had carried out and it was in fact just an oil leak, so the cost being the least amount.

Since getting the car back we have noticed a much improved performance which we can only assume is the result of having the gearbox and engine out and after finding the leak you reassemble everything and ensured the performance of the car was fine. As a couple who know nothing about cars other than we ensure it receives its annual service we want to say a “Massive Thank You” for your top professional service both with Abi on Reception and your good self. With the car being 10 years old and having done only just over 28000 miles it allows us to get out of the house on a daily basis.

We will not hesitate to recommend your company should anyone enquire and will advise our local service garage who recommended you of the outstanding service.

Filled out the form online and received a phone call shortly after from Lee. I described my fault I had on the online form and he knew straight away even reenacted the sound on the phone.

Straight away i was told that it wasnt financially feasible to repair the fault given the age, cost and milage of the car. I was told this would be the probability when I spoke to my local garage. Auto Transmissisions just confirmed it.

Although I haven’t directly dealt with the company for work to be done, just how honest and professional they were down the phone. They could of taken the job on and took me for a walk in the park costing 1000s. Their honesty speaks volumes.

Volvo v70 2009 auto box reconditioned. Cheapest quote I could find but the workmanship seems first class.

Work included new torque converter, gearbox recon and throttle body for just over £2,000+vat.

One of the team rang me each day to let me know progress, and they had the car for 5 working days as discussed before work started. Car was clean when I got the keys back.

Brilliant service and advice from specialists that know their stuff! My Mondeo was diagnosed at a Ford Main Dealer needing over £5,000 to replace the auto box and ancillary parts. They were not keen to even do the work. Excellent service. Had a gearbox fitted a few months ago which developed a small oil leak. After a short call to let them know, I was booked in and the problem sorted. Very quick and helpful. I would highly recommend the team at Automatic Transmissions.

Spoke to Lee after the ford main dealers quoted me an obscene price for repairs to my Ford Kugas powershift gearbox. Lee explained what he thought the problem was drove 100 miles to drop car off staff in reception where really friendly even told us where was nice to get some food .Lee said it would take about 3 to 5 days to be done as good as his word got car back yesterday drives like new and at a third of the price I was quoted by Ford. HIGHLY RECOMMEND these guys.

I was recommended Auto Transmissions by two mechanics – one that I always go to for the general up keep of my cars and another in Halifax.
My S3 7-speed S tronic gearbox had failed at only 26k miles. Lee and Andrew tried their hardest to repair the gearbox but it required a new one.
The service I received from these guys was brilliant. They got me a remanufactured gearbox that comes with a years warranty from their suppliers who unfortunately put the wrong front cover on it – to stop any further delays Lee had the correct part in stock and managed to fit it for me, meaning I got my car back accordingly. I was very happy at the level of service provided from Auto Transmissions – Lee’s customer service skills are great and he really cares for the customer and the situation they are in. Not only that, his after care is also amazing and I will definitely be using his/Auto Transmissions custom again when I need any advice or gearbox servicing etc. I will also be recommending these guys to my family/friends if they require an expert.

After 10 days of my car being in a garage in whitefield (Transtech) and nothing being done to it I called on Lee at auto transmission who was happy to answer any questions and most of all get the job done, picked up and delivered back on time, yet to give my Freelander a proper run on the motorway to see if the problem has gone as it needs to be run an hour or so but feeling pretty confident as the gearbox is sounding better than ever . My BMW X5 developed a fault after having the auto gearbox oil changed by a local garage. Subsequently the local BMW specialist changed the oil again and used the correct ZF transmission kit to re-set the box and remove the fault conditions from the onboard computer. Although much better there was still a juddering and thumping noise from the car under light loads. No faults were showing on the onboard diagnosis. The problem was defeating our local BMW specialist who was thinking about a new autobox.
So I contacted Lee and arranged for the car to be looked at by his team. A few days later they said it was probably the tyres not being all the same spec, preferred by BMW, the ABS can start to intermittently trigger giving rise to the juddering I experienced. So trusting to an experienced specialist saved me the cost of a new autogearbox. I’m delighted and especially thanks to Andrew who patiently explained the solution to me in the face of my initial scepticism. Their hourly rates are very competitive too. Top marks and I recommend them without hesitation.

Recovered a customers car to here today, very friendly staff and very efficient considering current Covid regulations.

I contacted Automatic Transmissions after being severely let down and lied to by a garage in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, who were too incompetent to rebuild my BMW X5 ZF gearbox, despite claiming they’re gearbox specialists, and tried to sell me a new gearbox for £7,800.

I spoke to Lee on the phone and he informed me of the worst and best case scenario – no nonsense. Straight away I knew what I was getting and decided to drive from Newcastle to Huddersfield for the work to be carried out.

On arrival, I was greeted by Abbie in reception, a lovely lady with great customer service to go with it. We even had a nice little conversation about Gearboxes before I handed my keys over, I felt like I was talking to a very knowledgeable female version of  “Jeremy Clarkson”

I was provided with a lovely Ford Focus Automatic courtesy car for just over a week, until my car was ready to be picked up.

Lee called after the initial diagnostic, informing me of the damage, and that I’d need a gearbox rebuild, having to pay the full rebuild price if the Transmission Control Unit was damaged, and considerably less if it wasn’t.

It turned out the Transmission Control Unit didn’t need to be replaced, saving me no small amount of money I imagine. Some garages could have easily ripped me off at that point but these guys couldn’t have been more honest – I was amazed. The car is driving like new, with the smoothest gear changes I’ve ever experienced thanks to Automatic Transmissions!

I’d like to add that if you have a BMW, ignore BMW telling you that the gearbox oil or any other fluids are lifetime parts that don’t need changing. The filter & oil change interval on a ZF gearbox for example, is anywhere from 50 – 75K miles.

I would happily recommend Automatic Transmissions to anyone, and the next time I have gearbox related issues on any car, I’ll be driving 2 hours 30 mins from Newcastle and taking it to them.

Lee diagnosed the problem with the VW Golf over the phone & advised me not to drive it again.

He was spot on & it could have been far more costly if it had been driven.

I used this garage about eight years ago to repair A Mondeo mk4 proper automatic gearbox.

110,000 miles later it was still going great guns .(total mileage at that point , 323 thousand.)

Without doubt this is the best and most honest company that I have had the pleasure to find and deal with. Genuine people.

Our 2012 Ford Focus Titanium with very low mileage that we have only had for some few months has the notorious Powershift Automatic

Transmission, developed a fault. The AA towed it a Main Ford Dealership in Harrogate, their quotation for doing the work being £5137!

Fortunately, I found Automatic Transmissions, read carefully their website and especially the very good testimonials.

Then spoke with Lee and was impressed with his manner, knowledge and honesty.  AA kindly towed the vehicle to them, and asked that they proceed with a full diagnostics, and then commissioned the repair with full road test. All at £1380 with 12 months guarantee on parts and labour.

Well done to all, from receptionist Abi, to the skilled mechanics and last but not least Lee.

Had a problem with my Audi A1 automatic gearbox.

I contacted Lee he arranged for the car to be picked up.

He then diagnosed problems stripped repaired with new parts cost a little more than expected but I guess that’s why they are one of the best in the country – returned car it runs like a dream would highly recommend them

I had problems with my Ford CMax automatic gear box.

Lots of garages around where I live were not interested in repairing it.

On line I found Automatic Transmissions who were only too pleased to carry out repairs. They picked up my car from Grimsby on Tuesday and my car was ready for collection Friday morning.

They did a great repair and the price was very reasonable. It now drives perfectly and I love driving it.

Skoda Yeti 1.2 – auto box starts playing up…

Skoda wanted £££ just to diagnose the problem, so gave Auto Transmissions a try -(after calling and discussing) despite being 2 hrs drive away.

Glad I did. Work was carried out using genuine parts, and at a fraction of the cost of a main dealer.

Several years (and 20,000 miles) later, no problems at all.

I had the mechatronic unit replaced last year however it failed and had to be repaired again.

After speaking to Lee he was very helpful and understanding, he arranged for my car to be picked up repaired and returned to me under the guarantee.

I am pleased with the level of service I received and highly delighted with having my car back on the road within less than 24hrs of it being picked up.

Took my Bmax as I was having some issues, however they checked it out and rang me to say they couldn’t find a fault, They did a second check on my request and no issues. I picked the car up and no issues. Probably me being too jumpy. They charged me very reasonable for testing it out. Very Honest company. Thank you

I had a transfer box problem with my 2012 BMW X3. I called three of four local gearbox company’s who we’re all too scared to have a look. I finally found a company who would take a look but quoted over £3000+vat to fit a recon box. That didn’t sound right to me so I wanted another opinion, and I’m very glad I did.

Dropped the car off with Lee, and he quoted me substantially less that the original price, and that was to strip and repair my unit. Its always best to keep the car original in my opinion.

Lee was spot on with his updates, in a timely friendly and open manor. Nothing was too much trouble and I felt in the loop at all stages. I’ll go back to Automatic transmissions for any future repairs, and I’ll be telling anyone who has transmission issues to give them a call.

After my merc was in another garage for 2 and a half months with no progress, Automatic Transmissions recovered my car and within a day of having my car told me exactly what the issue was and how much the fix would be. Dropped my Audi A6 off last week for the ZF8 gearbox service. Car feels so much better now. Me being the awkward customer, the customer service over the phone was excellent. I came across automatic transmissions after having an intermittent issue with my gear box in my Audi a6 avant Quattro. I called many other garages that simply were not interested in having a look at it. After speaking to a chap called Lee and all my worries were put to rest.
